Picking your first AI team plan

Five people, five plans, one decision. The 2026 team tiers cluster at $20–$40 per seat for five seats, and the spread comes from minimum seat counts, billing commitments and the admin controls that ship in the box.

The Quick Version
  • Claude Team has a hard 5-seat minimum at $20 a seat on annual billing; ChatGPT Business a 2-seat minimum at the same $20
  • Five standard seats on Claude Team cost $100 a month on annual billing, $125 monthly; ChatGPT Business is the same
  • Perplexity Enterprise Pro charges $40 a seat, $200 for five — but its audit logs and user-provisioning tools only ship at 50+ seats
  • Google's Annual/Fixed-Term plan is cheaper per seat but locks the licence count for the term; the Flexible Plan bills prorated and can be cut any day
  • Model flagships in June 2026 are Opus 4.8 (Claude), GPT-5.5 (ChatGPT Business), Gemini (Workspace) and MiniMax M3; Perplexity routes across vendors

Five team plans, five-seat commitments

Buying AI for a five-person team in mid-2026 means buying seats, not subscriptions. Each of the five published team tiers — Claude Team, ChatGPT Business, Google Workspace with Gemini, Perplexity Enterprise Pro and the MiniMax Token Plan — charges per seat, with its own minimum-seat rule, billing commitment and admin toolset. The cheapest published five-seat total is $100 a month on annual billing; the dearest runs to $200. When you take on a team plan, you take on the minimum seat count, the billing cycle, and the data-residency terms the vendor offers — not just the per-seat price. All prices are USD as published by the vendors.

What you sign up for

  • Claude Team — five-seat minimum, up to 150. Standard seats at $20 annual or $25 monthly; premium at $100 annual or $125 monthly, offering roughly 5× the standard usage per Anthropic. Admins can mix seat types on the same plan — premium for one power user, standard for the other four. Weekly limits reset per member, not per team, per the Claude Team help article.
  • ChatGPT Business — two-seat minimum, up to 149. Per TechJack, $20 annual or $25 monthly, with single sign-on, a central admin console, and connectors spanning Google Drive, SharePoint, Slack, GitHub, Notion and Dropbox. Customer data is not used for model training — the key governance distinction from the consumer tiers.
  • Google Workspace with GeminiGoogle bills by user. The Flexible Plan lets you add and remove licences any day, prorated. The Annual/Fixed-Term Plan is cheaper per seat, but the licence count can only be reduced at renewal. Pricing for Business Standard with Gemini is not in our source; only Google AI Pro for Education publishes, at $20 per user annual or $24 monthly.
  • Perplexity Enterprise Pro — $40 per seat, $200 for five. Per Finout, unlimited Pro queries, 500 research queries a day per seat, and single sign-on. Audit logs and user-provisioning tools only kick in at 50 seats — a five-person team pays for search capacity, not the governance tier.
  • MiniMax Token Plan — Plus is $20 per account against a shared quota, per the MiniMax docs. The team variant exists, but per-seat pricing and minimum seats are not in our source. Five Plus seats on one card is the working approximation.

What to weigh up for your firm

Match the commitment to the team, not the model:

  • Writing-heavy firm — Claude Team. Long context, careful prose, a hard 5-seat minimum, and the option to mix one premium seat in for a power user.
  • Generalist office — ChatGPT Business. The lowest published per-seat price in the table, the broadest model menu, and a 2-seat minimum that leaves room to scale.
  • Google-shop office — Workspace with Gemini on the Flexible Plan, unless you can commit to the licence count for a year.
  • Research outfit — Perplexity Enterprise Pro, budgeting $200 a month for five seats, accepting that audit logs and user-provisioning are 50-seat features.
  • Team with a builder — MiniMax Token Plan for Teams. Until team pricing publishes, five Plus seats on one card is the working approximation.
  • No-IT crowd — five solo $20 plans, stood up in an afternoon, with no single sign-on and no central billing.

Run a single paid cycle, measure time saved, divide the bill by your team’s blended hourly rate, and keep the plan that clears the bar. The cheapest line item is rarely the right one if it leaves you paying five invoices to five vendors — buying all five seats on one plan cuts admin time and earns the central billing tools.

$200the monthly cost of five Perplexity Enterprise Pro seats — the dearest five-seat total in the published team tiers, double the floor set by Claude Team and ChatGPT Business
